Write a waste transfer note

Fill in the boxes, both of you sign on the screen, and the note lands in your inbox and the customer's as a PDF. Every box that has to be on it, is — including the one everyone forgets.

1 · You, the carrier Saved for next time on this phone
2 · The customer
The SIC code is the customer's 2007 industry code. It's on their Companies House page — it has to be on the note.
3 · What's in the load
Don't know the code? Type what it is in plain English and pick from the suggestions. Not sure of the weight? A Transit load is usually 1 to 1.5 tonnes.
4 · Collected from, and where it's going
The permit or exemption number is on the tip's gate paperwork or weighbridge ticket. Every load has to say where it went.
5 · The bits people forget
Time and place. Set to when you filled this in — change the date and time in section 4 if you're writing it up later.
No hazardous waste. Fridges, TVs, tubes, batteries and solvent paint need a consignment note instead — the tool won't let them onto this note.

Questions carriers ask

What has to be on a waste transfer note?
What the waste is and its six-digit code, how much and whether it's loose or in a container, the time and place it changed hands, the customer's SIC code, both businesses' names and addresses, your licence number, the tip's permit or exemption, a tick to say the waste hierarchy was considered, and both signatures. This tool won't make the note until every one of those is there.
Do householders need a transfer note?
No. A household handing waste to a carrier doesn't need one — but they do have to check you're licensed, and you should still keep a record. Pick "A household" and we make a collection receipt with your licence details on it instead.
What about sofas and armchairs?
Upholstered seating counts as POPs waste. The code stays 20 03 07 and it's not hazardous, but it must be kept separate from other waste, can't go to landfill and has to be incinerated. Tell the tip before you arrive.
Can I put hazardous waste on it?
No. Fridges, TVs, fluorescent tubes, batteries, asbestos and solvent paint need a hazardous waste consignment note, not a transfer note. The tool refuses those codes so a note is never wrong by accident.
How long do I keep it?
At least two years, and you must be able to produce it within seven days if the Environment Agency asks. The PDF goes to your inbox; WasteBoss also keeps a copy for two years.
Is a note made here legally valid?
It carries every item regulation 35 of the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 asks for, and the regulations expressly allow an electronic note with electronic signatures. Whether the details are true is on the two people who signed it — same as paper.
