Waste codes · Chapter 20

20 01 21

Fluorescent tubes, low-energy bulbs

This one can't go on a transfer note
Hazardous waste — it needs a consignment note.

The star on the code is what makes it hazardous. Hazardous waste moves on a consignment note, not a waste transfer note, and the carrier and the site both need to be able to take it. Our free note tool refuses these codes on purpose — putting one on a transfer note is the mistake, not the fix.

What to write on the note
20 01 21
fluorescent tubes and other mercury-containing waste
That second line is the official List of Wastes description. Writing it out is what makes the note match the code.
